I just arrived from the 1980s in a time machine I built, I've looked around at your decade and I don't like what I see. I am going back to the 80s, I have room for one more, anyone want to go back with me?

“In Greek, “nostalgia” literally means “the pain from an old wound”. It’s a twinge in your heart, far more powerful than memory alone.” ― Don Draper Many of us remember the feelings generated from the aesthetics of the era: the neon glow, the hot pink and lime green bikinis at sunset, the coppertone suntan lotion, the salty air of a coastal city at night. Miami in the midst of the drug-filled and real estate excess of the 80s was a different kind of noir altogether. Before the world became so small, even the US had places that felt “exotic”. Places that gave one urges, made one emotional, and generated a sense of longing to escape wherever you were and move to some new place “where the action is”. Captured in the art of ‘vaporwave’ such as the paintings of Hiroshi Nagai, there was also an overlay of ‘faceless, global, techno-capitalism’ associated with Japan which was on the rise and seen as threatening to the western world order. A combination of materialism, stoicism, nihilism - at least in TV and film.

I was born in 1983 and I'll often be blasting this through my headphones as I go for a walk, job or go to the gym! I've loved this song since I first heard it as a 6 year old and it lead to me becoming a musician a few years later because it made me realise that, if something THIS great could be created on a synthesizer? Anything is possible!

Who's here in 2024?! Who's was here in 2023 or before that?!! Who will be here in 2025 and beyond?!?!?! Who gives a f. what year it is!! I'm sick of people shouting out what year it is like it's an accomplishment to be list to timeless music in any year!! That's why it's timeless. Can we just enjoy and or at least comment on the music composition or video even without tooting your horn that you're listening to it 30+ years after release like that somehow makes you cooler and unique lol

I have kind of a funny self-deprecating Miami Vice story. i had just graduated Engineering College in '85 and had my first job and was making the big Engineer's paycheck and I was doing quite well with the ladies and I was a pretty good looking guy...anyway I was at work one day and a girl i didn't really know walks by my office and says, You look like Don Johnson. I was totally flattered and did sort of try to style myself after him. So anyway a couple weeks later I get set up on a blind date and we are supposed to meet at a bar and I tell the girl I'll be sitting at the bar and I look like Don Johnson. So I'm sitting there and I see who I believe to be the girl walk in and she takes a walk around the bar and just when I am ready to get up and walk over she walks back towards the door, walks out gets in her door and leaves. A couple days later I reach out and she said, well i walked in and looked at all the guys at the bar and nobody looked like Don Johnson so I left. That was a bucket of cold water ion my ego, haha.

I want to go back to the 80's I'm literally crying right now no joke. There was that innocence in the air, that simplicity due to the lack of information we did get back then in comparison with these days . We were living in a moment. Now, we're so much innondated with such a flow of information that it made us completely plugged and robotized in sync with Internet Who wants to be unplugged? Free from that cybernetic matrix?

I was living in Miami back then. I was a student at The U. I accidentally found where they were taping one night and I watched all night long. I did it a few more nights before I graduated. It was amazing. I love this show. Love this scene. I'm still watching it on Pluto Tv even though I own the boxed set. It's a part of my life.

The funny thing is that when we talk about the 80s, we actually think about the years 85-92. For example, the first episode of Miami Vice aired in September 1984 (that's almost 85), and the last episode aired in 1990. Why 1992 as the cutoff year? Because this year, Terminator 2 came out, which was Arnold's last film from his golden era. In 1992 Wolfenstein3D was released, a year later Doom, entertainment industry changed forever.
